Hello everybody,
In this post i wanted to share with you guys how i deep clean and spot clean my makeup brushes and also give you a few tips. I’m sure many of you can relate with me when i say that cleaning makeup brushes is such a chore and honestly, i still struggle with doing it regularly and i have found this to be the easiest and fastest way of doing it. So, if you guys want to know how i clean my makeup brushes, then keep on reading!
To deep clean your brushes, you will need:
Pour some of the baby shampoo onto your brush cleaning mat and then your wet your brush under the tap.
After that, swirl the dirty brush onto the cleaning mat until all the gunk has come out of the brush. You will be able to tell the brush is completely clean when the bristles go back to their original color. For me, one time is enough but sometimes i need to repeat the process if the brush is super dirty.
After that, gently squeeze the excess water out of the brush using your hands.
Place all your washed and clean brushes onto a towel and let them dry. It usually takes my brushes a day to completely dry.
To spot clean your brushes, you will need:
This process is pretty simple as all you need to do is put a few drops of the olive oil on to the paper towel and then dip the brush into that. Swipe the brush on the dry side of the paper towel to get rid of all the gunk and that’s it. You don’t even have to wait for the brushes to dry and you can use them right away!
Tips:
- If you don’t have a brush cleaning mat, you can simply use your hand instead but i recommend getting one as it cleans the brush more deeply and is super cheap!
- Make sure the water is not too hot as this can loosen the glue that holds the bristles and the handle of the brush together.
- Make sure that you always hold the brush downwards while washing it so the water does not seep into the handle of the brush.
- Avoid using soap/shampoo that use harsh chemicals to clean your brushes as this can completely destroy your brushes (baby shampoo is the best imo).
And that’s how i wash my makeup brushes. It’s pretty simple and doesn’t require any expensive materials and that is why i love it! I hope you guys found this helpful!
How often do guys clean your makeup brushes? Do you have any tips for cleaning them? Let me know!
Thank you for reading xx
A brush cleaning mat is such a useful tool. I love swirling my brushes in a hint of conditioner. I think I mentally tell myself that the brushes will be softer. Xx

This is very interesting, thanks for sharing. I will use baby shampoo from now on, since it’s a lot gentler.

I used to use baby shampoo a while back, but always had trouble rinsing everything out
Does that ever happen to you? I love using a brush egg as well – I switch between that and my cleaning mat. Lovely read 🙂
