5 Tips To Get Your Highlight On Fleek ๐Ÿ’ซ

One trend that has taken the whole beauty community by storm is highlighting. Whether it is a subtle glow or a โ€˜BAM, in your faceโ€™ type highlight, this trend has made its mark and has proven that it is here to stay. My highlighting techniques have changed with time as Iโ€™ve learned new methods and tried out new products and after getting numerous compliments on my highlight these past few months, I decided share with you guys my 5 top tips to that can help you get your highlight on fleek as well!

  • Application

One thing that can make or break your highlighter application is the tool you use. For powders, go for a small fluffy brush like the one shown in the picture below which is my ride or die highlighter brush (You could also go for a fan brush). As for cream highlighters, it is best to use either a damp sponge or your fingers.

  • Layering cream and powder

Now this is a tip that just took my highlighting game to another level (not exaggerating). If you want to for that really glow-y look then take some cream highlighter and dab it on the high points of your cheekbones and then on top go in with a powder highlighter. This layering technique will not only increase the longevity of your highlighter but also give it that extra oomph.

  • Make your highlighter blended and seamless

One of my biggest pet peeve when it comes to highlighting is when it looks patchy, glittery or not blended. In order to get that seamless and flawless glow on your skin, after you have applied the highlighter, just dab over it with a damp beauty sponge. You could also spray some MAC fix plus (or any similar setting spray) on the area where you have highlighted to ensure it blends in nicely with the rest of your makeup without taking away the glow y-ness.

  • Mixing highlighter and foundation

If want an overall glow y to look to your face, just mix in a few drops of your favorite cream highlighter into your foundation. I love doing this especially if I’m going to be taking pictures as it just adds this beautiful glow y sheen to my skin without me looking like a disco ball (unless you like the ‘disco ball’ look, then by all means go for it).

  • Use eye shadow as highlighters

I’m sure may of you have heard about this tip already, but i had to include it as it’s one of my favorites. Eye shadows work wonders as a highlighter, just make sure to build it up slowly as eye shadows tend to be way more pigmented that actual highlighters. This is especially nice if you want to change up your highlighter and don’t have a specific highlighting shade, you can just look through your eye shadow collection and choose one that you think would look nice as a highlighter.

And those are my top 5 highlighting tips and tricks that i hope were useful to you guys as they have really helped me up my highlighting game.

What are your top highlighting tips? Do you use any of the ones i mentioned above? Let me know!

Thank you for reading! xx

    1. Me too! I wasnโ€™t big fan of highlighters before and that was honestly due to me not using the right techniques to blend it in, now I cant go a day without having a little bit of glow on! โ˜บ๏ธ

  2. I do have cream and powder highlighters, but I never use them togethe. I always use them seperately, don’t know why hahah ๐Ÿ˜€ I would love to mix the highlighter with my foundations, but I think us with oily skin are quite cautious with that. Btw your brows look so good โค What did you use to fill them in?

    1. I didnโ€™t used to either but I tried it once and it looked so good, then I never stopped haha! Oh yes! I can see why you would have to cautious with doing that if you have oily skin! I have dry skin so it works quite well for me. For my brows, I actually use eyeshadow from my naked basics palette, I just find that so much easier as it gives me so much control on how I want my brows to look! If you want, I have a post on how I do my brows:
      Hope that was helpful! ๐Ÿ˜˜โ™ฅ๏ธ

    1. Haha! Oh man, well I guess you guys always have a natural glow right! Plus I read somewhere that people with dry skin are more prone to premature wrinkles so you got lucky there ๐Ÿ˜…
      Thank youuu โ™ฅ๏ธ

  3. I LOVE highlighter and I have such good ones but I get so scared when I need to apply them. I think I worry that I am going to put it in the wrong place and end up looking ridiculous haha! Yours looks gorgeous! great tips x

    1. Thank you so much! ๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿ’•
I would say start small, like just put a little bit of it on and then gradually increase the application as you become more comfortable with it, thatโ€™s exactly what I did aswell! Or try using a very sheer highlighter instead of a โ€˜bam in your face oneโ€™!โ˜บ๏ธ๐Ÿ’•

  4. I totally agree the whole highlighter trend has gone to another level. I mostly prefer the subtle highlighted look as I have oily skin. I sometimes use eyeshadows as highlighter as well there are few that are lovely. Thanks for sharing loved reading. ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Iโ€™m definitely more of a dewy/natural glow type of person, although sometimes I do like to go a little more dramatic with my highlighter!
I also love using eyeshadows as highlighter! โ˜บ๏ธ Youโ€™re welcome! ๐Ÿ’—๐Ÿ’—

    1. Thank you! ๐Ÿ’—๐Ÿ’—
Haha, me too! Although I get really annoyed if my highlighter isnโ€™t blended properly or looks too patchy so that can sometimes be the time consuming part of my makeup routine! ๐Ÿ’—

  5. So pretty!I’m not perticularly picky about highlighters, I’ve been using Mac’s soft & gentle skin finish for years and I haven’t had the need to change. It can definitely look like a disco ball if you’re not careful with application though! But if you love dramatic effects, it’s a good one to choose.

My all time fav is champagne pop by Becca cosmetics
For the liquid one I like Becca as well in โ€˜opalโ€™
They are on the pricier side but sooo worth it!
