The Truth About Blogging..

From the outside, blogging might seem like the perfect job/hobby to have; however, just like with everything else, blogging too has it’s struggles. I would like to mention that I am not here to be negative or to complain about how hard it is being a blogger- it isn’t, I simply want to share with you all some struggles that I and many other bloggers face especially ones who are trying to make a career out of it or those who are just starting out. So, here are some of my main struggles and a little bit on how I try to combat them!

  • COMPARISON

I am starting of with this one as I feel it is the most common struggle many of us face as bloggers. Due to the blogging industry being so saturated and growing at such a fast pace, I feel like competition is inevitable; however negative competition can really hinder our growth as bloggers. I have days where I sit there comparing my ‘mediocre’ blog phots to those perfectly edited photos of other blogger or days where I wonder why I am not getting the same amazing opportunities as some other bloggers when I seem to be putting in the same if not more time and effort. These types of thoughts can quickly take away my motivation and leave me feeling not ‘good enough’.

Some ways that help me deal with this is to acknowledge the fact that there will always be someone better than me and comparing myself to others will not get me anywhere as it is a never ending vicious cycle. Also, looking back at the progress I have made since I first started blogging really helps me evaluate how far I have come and how far I still have to go. My tip for any of you struggling with this is to remember to only compare yourself to one person and that is YOU.

  • TIME CONSUMING/WORTHINESS

If you are someone who thinks that in order to become a successful blogger, you simply sit in front of a computer screen, write up a post and hit the publish button, then you are completely wrong. Coming up with blogpost ideas, writing the blogpost, proofreading it, taking blog photos, editing those photos, publishing the post, promoting it through various social medias such as Instagram/Pinterest/Twitter and connecting with your audience by replying to comments/reading their content are just some of the activities we bloggers have to undertake. As I am not lucky enough to have this as my full time job, I sometimes struggle to understand whether all this time I am investing in this blog is really worth something. Should I cut down on the time and effort I put on my blog and use that energy elsewhere? At the end of the day, I am doing this because I truly love and enjoy it and that is why you often hear people say that if you are blogging for the free stuff, just don’t because this is something that requires time, effort and patience.

The way I like to combat this is to acknowledge the fact that I would rather be doing something I love than have a job that pays me tons of money but gives me no pleasure what so ever. I feel like we are a generation that wants things to come to us exactly when we want them to and the power of patience is often overlooked by us and so in these times I have to learn to be patient and tell myself that my passion and belief is enough to get me where want to!

  • EXCESSIVE USE OF SOCIAL MEDIA

Keeping up to date with your social medias is imperative to being a blogger. I currently use Instagram and Twitter the most to promote my blog and occasionally Pinterest. What I have noticed is that the amount of time I used to spent on social media before blogging and the amount of time I now spent has doubled. I struggle to keep a balance on when I am using social media for blog work and when I am using it for leisure and that is something I definitely work on.

What are some blogging struggles you have faced? How do you overcome them?

I would love to know your thoughts in the comments!

  3. So relatable. I also don’t have the luxury of making this my full-time job. I’m also a single parent. So when I am on here blogging, that is time that is being taken away from him. What I always try and do is make sure to blog when he’s asleep or at school and will now be having all my blog posts pre-scheduled so that way I don’t have as much to worry about. But its definitely challenging.

    1. That is so interesting! The fact that you are able to juggle that and blogging is SO amazing! 💗
Prescheduling blogposts is such a good idea, I do that when I know I will be busy in the coming days and it’s helps so much! xx

  4. Everything is so relatable! I have fixed the time of when I’ll be using Instagram or wordpress because it takes a toll on my schedule. Comparing with other people’s perfect pictures always make me feel a little bad about myself. But those blog pictures are inspiring me to do better and I’m trying!

    1. It’s so great that you have a fixed time for using social medias, I really should do that too! And yes, I always try to become inspired and learn from others instead of feel bad about myself! xx

  5. I mainly struggle with keeping up on social media. No one knows about my blog so it’s completely separate so Facebook doesn’t try and tell everyone that I have an instagram. The only problem is, is that because it’s not on my phone, I have to try and catch up in the evenings only.

  6. Such a great post! Let’s face it, as much as we love blogging it can be hard. Especially when we’ve put our hearts and souls in to a post and it doesn’t get many hits but one we just whipped up does. I love photography but I suck at editing and don’t even have adobe photoshop. I see other photos about and think wow, I wish I was that good. But then I stop and think, like you said in your post, I’ve come far since I started! The only person we should compare ourselves to is ourself. Our own progress and achievements. And never must we forget we do this because we love it, not for the likes or hits or collaborations. 7. YES! Thank you for posting this! I keep running into the mindset where I really want to try and get opportunities from brands, since I see alot of other bloggers getting them, but of course I get denied lol. Its hard to overcome these feelings sometimes and remember why we started our blogs in the first place ❤

    1. I totally get you! I have to tell myself to keep going and hopefully the hard work will pay off! It really can be hard at times but yes blogging makes me happy and that is enough of a reason for me to continue doing it! xx

  8. I struggle with some of this too! I compare myself to others as I am just starting out. I blog part time also, and I find it hard to justify spending SO much extra time blogging. Though I am in the Marketing world professionally I needed an outlet to blog and “market” things I enjoyed talking about! This is so relatable, I love it!

  9. I can definitely relate to the time consuming. I literally have to proofread my posts at least 5 times and each time I find a little mistake lol. Then as soon as I make a new post, I make sure to share it EVERY WHERE. But it’s also kind of hard to give back comments and likes to everyone that follows you, so I do end up not interacting with everyone. Sometimes I feel bad about it because they are giving my blog love but sometimes I just don’t have time and forget. I make sure to try to comment/like/follow as many blogs as possible. But, it’s allllll worth it. The validation and positive things that I get when I get more followers, comments, feedback, likes, etc. It just feels so good to know that there are people that are interested in what you’re writing.

    1. Yesss! Honestly when I first started out, it wouldn’t take up that much of my time but I have noticed as my blog has grown and I have become more active on social media’s to keep the growth going on, it gets more and more time consuming!
Thanks so much for reading! 💗

  10. Agreed with each and every single point. Blogging is something very serious. Its actually a full time job like any other job. You need a lot of patience to get your desired goal but nothing is impossible if you are passionate about it. Good post👍👍

  11. I love this post! Everything you said is so true, I think it’s really hard juggling a full time job and putting 100% in to my blog and content on my social media to help I plan out my days and what days and times to plan out my blog and blog post and to still give myself some me time.

  12. This post is SO relatable! I absolutely agree with the time consuming and worthiness! Me being a student and having a blog is quite tough! Especially when you always try to put up the best quality content! xx

  13. Making comparisons can be incredibly frustrating. I try my best not to do it but it’s kind of inevitable when you follow so many bloggers. I see bloggers who started out at the same time of me working with incredible brands and having opportunities I can only dream of! xx

    1. Oh no don’t say that! I’m sure it is all worth it! Even that one comment or like means someone enjoyed your content and as I said there are so many bloggers out there that getting yourself out there will definitely be a struggle! xx

  14. Oh wow this is so true! I always worry about small things like getting good enough pictures, if my content is interesting enough and whether or not I’m boring people with the subjects I choose to write about. Reading this post definitely reassured me to have more confidence in my own blog! Thank you xx

  15. Completely agree! Having to work full time means that I’m really struggling to find time to write posts at the minute and I sometimes wonder if it’s worth it and if I’ll be able to keep doing this forever but I love my little blog so I need to try and stay motivated!

  16. Every single point you’ve made is spot on, I don’t think you realise coming into it how much you need to do to making your blog the best it can be. Even as a hobby you put so much time, effort, pride and passion into it, and it can be hard to keep the motivation but if you love what you do then it will shine through so much more than if you’re doing it for the expectations of receiving freebies etc. I think you have a lovely blog and you’re doing amazing things with it.

  18. I couldn’t agree more! it’s a lot of work! I really hate that many people are so negative though… yes there is competition but there’s room for all of us. We need to support each other! 💕

  19. OMG! Yes keeping up with my social media has gotten really hard, honesty some weeks I just need a break from being on my phone all day scrolling and staring at screens. Gets a little overwhelming, but I heard there are some apps that let you schedule posts for your social media so maybe that could help!

I’ve also had to tell myself to stop comparing my blog/social media to everyone else, I think that our brand should be completely our so that our readers can get to know us!

Great post, always enjoy reading 💙

    1. Oh yes! I have the the scheduling app for twitter but for Instagram you actually have to open the app and post it yourself so it kind of defeats the purpose haha!
That’s so true, we are all unique and that’s what I have to tell myself repeatedly! xx

  20. Great post! I think the worst to me is social media. I only have a personal Instagram and Facebook, and I’m not really a fan of other platforms, but it’s important to promote your blog with different outlets. Posting often, creating extra content and growing your network gets very tiring! btw, I gave your blog a follow! 😉

  21. Couldn’t agree more, blogging definitely has it’s ups and downs but its worth all the stress it may bring sometimes.

Trying not to compare yourself to others in the blogging community can be so difficult!

  23. Hey, I can certainly relate to this. Its a hard industry to be in. Its fun and therapeutic from my point of view, being a mental health blogger. But it is hard work that’s for sure. There are so many talented people out there. Xx

  24. Can relate to a lot of this for sure! It sometimes feels like a never ending struggle to get a foothold, but it’s important, as you say to look back and see the gains we have made. I find keeping a blogging schedule very helpful in balancing my time between blogging and family/life

  25. I agree with all of these points, especially comparison. It is so easy to compare yourself to others and feel bad because you aren’t as successful, or your blog isn’t as amazing as theirs. It’s important to realise that nobody is perfect and that what is shown on social media is filtered.

  26. I totally agree with these truths! A lot of times, we can’t help but to compare ourselves but we need to remember that sometimes, our level 1 is someone else’s level 12 or the other way around! Oh man, I have a hard time keeping up with social media when I am at work! But at the end of the day, gotta pick out my priorities and work on them in order :).

  27. I came into blogging thinking it was going to be super fun and great, which it definitely is, but it does get hard. Motivation and engagement have been a problem for me, but my love for writing is really why I do it- that’s really kept me going. I am so proud of my blog though… I think all bloggers should be proud of their blogs just for such dedication 🙂

  28. This one definitely hit close to home. I think you are right about staying on track with your own blogging ambitions. One thing that helps me is the reminder that I’m doing this for me before anyone else. By staying true to my own passions and interests, I’ve discovered that there is an entire world of folks interested in the same ideas and passions. Yes, the industry is so saturated, but it’s saturated with folks who feel inclined to so and look as everyone else “trending”. Quite often, the folks who are originally themselves in everything they do, end up being the trendsetters. Thanks for the read.

    1. I’m so glad you could relate and enjoyed! It’s so interesting to see so many bloggers being able to relate to this article as it just shows that we literally are all the same, we go through the same struggles but often we isolate ourselves!
You are right, staying true to yourself is so important! xx

  29. YES! This is so true. I spend so much time thinking, creating, editing, and sharing that my whole day is just consumed with blog work when I’m not working or in class. And honestly, sometimes blogging becomes so stressful to balance with work and school.

  30. Such a beautiful post Huda. I can relate to each and every point you have mentioned here. Social media takes away so much time. I find myself awake late at midnight on my Instagram. But the journey so far is very beautiful and pleasurable for me. Sometimes I found myself comparing to some bloggers but then I felt the same there will always be someone who will be better than myself. So I see how I was earlier and how much I have improved in every thing makes me happy and content. Now I keep comparing myself with me. I feel this is a new way that I can keep learning. I have learned so much since I started blogging. 🙂

  31. I would totally agree with you hun, I work a full time job, while also being a wife and look after the house and get done but on top of that I have 2 blogs (Beauty Blog and Airsoft Blog) and then I also have my hobbies on top of that, it certainly is hard sometimes, espeically days where I am tired but bacause I love it I push myself to write, I have breaks and will pop blogs up saying so. I just remember that you can’t burn a candle at both end so I also try and look after myself. I also remember that I do it for myself and if others enjoy it then brillant. Just remember you are your worst enemy and that is never good you need to just be proud of what you have achieved and yes ok make targets nothing wrong in that.

  32. Ohhh, I agree with all of this!!! Especially the social media usage one… it’s a struggle.. I feel like I’m constantly trying to do something on one of my accounts and at times it’s exhausting trying to keep up. I have step back sometimes and refocus for sure!

  33. Great post. Totally struggle with all those things you said. It takes a little of time to have a good blog which is why I think I’m still only at less than 200 followers and I’ve been blogging for 4 years. Its definitely what you put in you get back. Whereas my Instagram I have much more followers, but I also post much more on Instagram. Its really hard to balance it all. Do you spend more time on your blog or your Instagram? Which do you think is more important?

    1. I totally get you!
I started off with creating a blog first and put my everything in to this blog and after a year I decided I wanted to make an Instagram too!
At this point, I would say I put equal amount of effort on both the blog and Instagram as I now realize how important instagram is for brands!
I don’t think one is more important than the other, it all depends on what you are aiming for! xx
